Song of a Nest.

If I were to succumb to my my fear of actually writing an ‘about’ page, I would hand the task over to Instagram who writes in the more wonderfully succinct language of hashtags.

#nestandthrive   #cultivatecreativity   #motherhoodalive   #embracingtheseasons   #intentionalliving   #justalittlewhimsey   #wanderandgather   #ethicalliving   #bedeeplyrooted  #inpraiseofslowness    #butfirstcoffee

However, most of us don’t speak in hashtags in real life, cause that would be just silly, so I’ll do my best in my own words as well.

Hello, my name is Kirsty and  this little online space of mine is where I run my small business, Song of a Nest and also write and create and make things happen.

I embroider words for people’s walls and sell them in my little shop. Words are important to me.

I write about stuff I care about : family, creativity, ethical living, motherhood, social justice, being cosy and books to name a few. I sometimes guest post on other websites. If you would like me to write or take photos for you, please get in touch: songofanest@gmail.com

I run small sewing workshops with a therapeutic rather than technical approach, often alongside young adults with learning difficulties, but mostly in nursing homes, where we share stories and memories as we sew.

I love the notion of creating a home that reflects the hearts of the people who live there. I custom make quilts for people from their own precious materials, sewing together their memories, their stories, their song.

I have started a project called ‘Shared threads’ which makes sanitary kits for girls in India so that they can go to school. 10% of profits from my shop currently go toward this project. I’d love to hear from you if you would like to contribute ideas, collaborate or volunteer in any way with this venture. I need all the help I can get!

I live in Northern Ireland with my husband and 3 children.  I am an unapologetic home bird and a hopeless up-cycling addict. I love coffee, cardigans and a good book by the fire.

Thanks for visiting.

Pop over to Instagram as well @songofanest to meet a beautiful, creative, supportive community that I am so grateful to have discovered. A community that builds each other up and that is honest about their hopes and their brokenness.  A community focused on gratitude and the simple everyday moments. Join us in sharing our dreams to make our nests better, our communities better, our world better. And of course some pretty photos of coffee cups.
